Upcoming 2010 Summer Film Blockbusters
May 7: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Stars Ben Barnes and Georgie Henley. This film may be delayed because of the Walt Disney Co. withdrawl from the film project at the end of 2008. Disney cancelled its involvement because of "budgetary considerations and other logistics." The price tag is estimated at $200 million to produce, not including marketing costs. The previous "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian" brought in just $419 million world-wide. The first film, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" grossed $745 million worldwide in 2005.
May 14: Untitled Robin Hood Adventure. Oscar® winner Russell Crowe stars as the legendary figure known by generations as "Robin Hood," whose exploits have endured in popular mythology and ignited the imagination of those who share his spirit of adventure and righteousness. June 11: The Karate Kid. 12-year-old Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) could've been the most popular kid in Detroit, but his mother's (Taraji P. Henson) latest career move has landed him in China. June 18: Toy Story 3D in 3D returns from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
July 2: RESTREPO - the soldiers who made it out of Afghanistan's Death Valley Two intrepid journalists spent over a year with the Battle Company of 173rd Airborne Brigade in a remote Afghani valley, considered to be one of the most dangerous postings of the war. This documentary gives us combat, bullet by bullet, soldiers, strike by strike, Afghanis, elder by elder, all set against the harsh terrain of a valley that has claimed fifty US lives. It's Afghanistan at its ugliest and documentary filmmaker at its most exciting and it's a compelling combination.
July 9: DESPICABLE ME stars Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Russell Brand, Will Arnett, Kristen Wiig, and Danny McBride. The film features funny, little, yellow minions. Universal's new 3-D CGI feature.
July 16: The Sorcerer's Apprentice, Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
