There are several movie serials to the Dick Tracy detective collection, first filmed in 1937 and continued through the 1940s.
The immortal comic-strip crimefighter, created by Chester Gould, were part of the Saturday matinee serials produced by Republic Pictures. Ralph Byrd played the character of Dick Tracy.
In 1945, RKO revived the the Tracy series. Morgan Coinway played Tracy in the first two films, then Byrd resumed the role.

- "Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome" (1947) Boris Karloff, Ralph Byrd, Anne Gwynne, Lyle Latell. Karloff stars as Gruesome who develops and experimental gas to freeze people so a bank robery can be committed. 65 min.
- "Dick Tracy" (1990) directed by Warren Beatty, who also stars along with Madonna, Al Pacino, Glenne Headly, Charlie Korsmo, Mandy Patinkin, William Forsythe, Dustin Hoffman, Dick Van Dyke, Catherine O'Hara, James Caan and others.
