Enos, the 5-year-old chimpanse, prepared for space flight with a rocket blastoff on November 39, 1961. During the early days of the space race against the Russians, Enos the Chimp, was a test flight.

The space capsule was recovered and the chimp was examined in hospital.

Enos completed two orbits and was brought back down to earth near Bermuda before completing his third revolution because of a heat-related problem that only a human astronaut could fix (Enos may have been a smart chimp, but he wasn't that smart). (partial newsreel).
