What's So Special About a Button?

The show theme is “Get Your Button Kicks on Route 66,” incorporating Springfield’s history as birthplace of the Route 66 historical highway.

What if one button made in the 18th century is worth thousands of dollars? What if another one was worn by dignitaries attending the inauguration of George Washington as the first President of the United States in 1789? Or, what if it is only a simple white mother-of-pearl button, but it was worn on your great grandmother’s wedding dress over 150 years ago?

Date:
Friday, August 8, 2014 - 7:30pm - 10:00pm

Tucson Entertainment Magazine Calendar

Center For The Arts Cinema presents Edgar Cayce: The Beautiful Dreamer. Edgar Cayce (1877 - 1945), was dubbed "the Sleeping Prophet" and "the Father of Holistic Medicine" because he was able to bring forth incredible healing information from a deep, self-induced trance. All he needed was to be given the subject to be discussed, or the inquiring person's name, address, and whereabouts, by a conductor to make suggestions and ask the questions, and a stenographer to take it all down. Almost every day for forty-two years he had out-of-body journeys in order to answer questions covering an immense range of subject matter. He could do this at any time, any place.

The project is [i]Stardust & Moonbeams, a smart, fun, sexy feminist short film set in the late 1920s and centered on sexual politics, equality, and turning the tables on the “male gaze—female object of the gaze” norm that we still see around us every day.

Beth: 20s-30s, Caucasian, brown hair, ardent feminist, the photographer in this scene
Will: 20s-30s, Caucasian, brown hair, must be in great shape and comfortable without a shirt, the photographer’s model in this scene

Stardust & Moonbeams film collaboration

Date:
Thursday, July 24, 2014 - 7:58pm - Thursday, December 31, 2015 - 11:00pm

By Madelyn Ritrosky

Several years ago, I was so excited to collaborate with Dena Huisman as we began our big adventure – we brainstormed and discussed and researched, then discussed and brainstormed some more until we had a very detailed, very long outline for our women’s fiction novel. We wrote up bios for all of our leading and main supporting characters; we found 1920s home plans. It was all terribly fun. We read extensively and began writing. That was the genesis of Stardust & Moonbeams.
