Date:
Monday, September 15, 2014 - 1:49pm - Wednesday, December 31, 2014 - 11:00pm

By Miv Evans

This won’t be the next Goodfellas and we’ve met most of the bad guys before, but there are enough nuances and story twists to keep this character-driven drama fermenting right to the end of its bitter sweet tale. It’s authentic, realistic and suspends our disbelief, which is why we go to the movies in the first place.

RON MAY DIRECTS ACTORS THEATRE’S SEASON-OPENING PRODUCTION OF SEMINAR, OCT. 24-NOV. 9 AT BLACK THEATRE TROUPE

PHOENIX, Ariz. (Sept. 10, 2014): Director Ron May doesn’t hide the fact – although maybe he should – that he’s a reality TV junkie, which makes him the perfect choice to direct Seminar, the first of Actor’s Theatre’s four Arizona premieres to be staged during the 2014-15 season.

“Seminar functions very much on reality competition show logic,” May said. “Throw a handful of clashing personalities together in a situation where they’re all in the same room vying for the same thing; mix in an even more ruthless, more articulate Simon Cowell; marinate in a bit of sexual tension and serve up the contact sport.”

7 Tips to Maximize Your Pet's Golden Years
September is Senior Pet Wellness Month

Pets are living longer and healthier lives thanks to developments in veterinary care and dietary habits. However, that doesn’t change the fact that their health begins to decline in their senior years at around the ages of six or seven.

“Pets age at a much faster rate than humans. For every one human year, a pet ages seven," says Dr. Mitsie Vargas a veterinarian based in Winter Haven, Florida.

"When you think about that and put that into perspective, then you realize how important taking your pet for a checkup twice a year is... that is when a lot of situations can be found out earlier and treated cheaper and with a better outcomes,” added Vargas.

This is a low-budget offering with great production values, a perfect setting, a talented cast but, unfortunately, not much else. An endless barrage of creepy clichés are thrown relentlessly at the meandering plot, but none are made sense of, or connected, or even explained. This lack of coherence gives a kind of ‘horror coated’ feel, with no big scares, no edge-of-the-seat moments and nothing to stop you from having sweet dreams.
