New Mexico's Flamenco Event

New Mexico is known as the epicenter for flamenco dancing in the United States thanks to the annual Festival Flamenco International de Albuquerque that brings in several thousand global visitors. The flamenco festival is the largest gathering of flamenco dance and music in North America and only second in the world, after the annual festival held in Madrid, Spain. The Albuquerque based event includes workshops, lectures and instruction and brings together over 5,500 students, patrons and world-class flamenco dancers.

The Ori Naftaly Band is a Soul/Blues band based out of Memphis, TN. In a very short time this extremely talented band has gained international recognition and support by the international blues community and by an extended fan base, located in the USA, Holland, and all around the world. Within the course of two years The Ori Naftaly Band (ONB) has covered 30 states in the USA and toured Europe twice.

“FEELIN’ GROOVY” SUMMER CHORAL CONCERT

The Summer Chorus offers a rockin’ good time on July 31. The “Feelin’ Groovy” concert and singalong features the title tune, plus other oldies such as Lollipop and songs by the Beatles, Paul Simon, Jackson 5, Jerry Lee Lewis and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. This will be the sixth annual concert by the Summer Chorus of about 45 male and female vocalists from community and church choirs. Longtime choral director Terrie Ashbaugh conducts. Rehearsals begin June 1 and continue on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church 1220 W Magee Rd.

The 4th Annual Sedona Hummingbird Festival invites residents and visitors alike to the Sedona Performing Arts Center and the greater Sedona area on July 31st and August 1-2 for three enchanting days of hummingbird presentations, banding demonstrations, sunrise breakfasts with the hummingbirds, shopping at the Hummingbird Marketplace, a hummingbird art exhibit, as well as hummingbird garden tours, birding trips, and more. Bluff City Theater presents "The Heiress"

Based on the Henry James novel Washington Square, Ruth and Augustus Goetz’ period drama The Heiress explores timeless themes of parental autocracy, personal independence and the nature of love. The Heiress opened in NYC in 1947 and ran for 410 performances before moving to London’s West End where it ran for 600 more. Twice revived on Broadway, the 1999 production won three Tony’s including best revival of a play. In this new professional production, director Jennifer Stewart brings the play to Bluff City Theater’s intimate 90-seat main stage for an unforgettable experience.

49th anniversary of the finding of Father Kino's remains in Magdalena

Tubac Presidio is celebrating with our cultural colleagues in the Mexican state of Sonora and at Tumacacori National Historical Park to mark the 49th anniversary of the finding of Father Kino's remains in Magdalena. We will be showing a 48 minute film made by the Italian Kino descendents who visited the United States and Mexico in 2011 as part of the 300th anniversary of Kino's death on Thursday, then on Friday, we'll have a talk on the ubiquitous (and delicious) varieties of pozole.
