Ted Danson Cheers on WNPA's 75th Anniversary Celebration

Ted Danson may be best known for his Emmy-award-winning role in the television series "Cheers" and his starring role in megahit "CSI," but on March 9 he will be in Tucson cheering on the Western National Parks Association. He is the featured guest at "Danson with the Parks," WNPA's celebration of 75 years of partnership with the National Park Service.

A conservationist and author, as well as an actor, Danson has direct connections to WNPA and its proud partnership with the National Park Service. His father, Dr. Edward "Ned" Danson, was renowned for his contributions to archaeology, cultural anthropology and the preservation of the west's natural and cultural environment. He considered Arizona his adopted state and raised his family in both Tucson and Flagstaff.

The Civic Orchestra of Tucson Presents an All-American Concert

Featured works are Symphony No. 2 by Charles Ives and the world premiere of "The Light of Tucson" by Tucson composer Alisha Nichols, dedicated to the healing power of music and Gabrielle Giffords. TUCSON, AZ -- Give your furs back to the animals! Starting Tuesday, January 15th through Earth Day on Monday, April 22nd, Buffalo Exchange will be accepting real fur apparel donations (including trims, accessories, coats, and shearlings) to benefit the Coats for Cubs program. The used furs will be donated to rehabilitation organizations across the country to use for the purpose of providing bedding and comfort to orphaned and injured wildlife. Because these items are going to wildlife rehabilitators, condition is unimportant. Since 2006, Buffalo Exchange has collected a total of 7,572 used furs through the Coats for Cubs program.

CityScape Adventures at Gentle Bens

Getting out of the house is often precluded by inclement weather, car trouble, and the tender bond between man and household dust mite.

CityScape Adventures entangle race participants in a web of 12 puzzles and challenges in a citywide race to the finish line. Participants compete in teams of two, using their wits, teamwork, and underground network of mutant-turtle spies to complete the tasks given at the start of the race.

Participants must bring a selection of items including a digital camera, pen or pencil, $10 each in singles for public transportation or emergency slushies, and comfortable shoes. The first team to successfully complete all tasks and vault the finish line will receive a prize and assembly line of high-fives.

THE WORLD’S BEST NATIVE HOOP DANCERS RETURN TO PHOENIX TO VIE FOR 2013 WORLD CHAMPION TITLE

WHAT: 23rd Annual World Championship Hoop Dance Contest
WHEN: Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 9 and 10, 2013

9:30 a.m. Grand Entry – Saturday and Sunday
Competition will end at approximately 5 p.m. on Saturday.
The Adult final round will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

WHERE: Heard Museum, 2301 N. Central Ave., Phoenix

COST: $18 general admission, $13.50 seniors (65+), $12 Heard Museum members and American Indians, $7.50 children 4-12, FREE for children under 4. Cost is per day and includes the event and museum admission.

The Tucson Rodeo Parade

As an official Arizona Centennial event, the Tucson Rodeo Parade is one of the longest non-motorized parade in the world. The Rodeo Parade is an 88-year Tucson tradition bringing the vibrant history and colors of the Southwest to life each February in conjunction with La Fiesta de los Vaqueros, The Tucson Rodeo.

An average of 150,000 spectators line the streets in southern Tucson in anticipation of the world’s longest non-motorized parade. The 88th Annual Parada de los Vaqueros, the Tucson Rodeo Parade, will take place on Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013.
