The Otis Wilson Foundation's 'Weekend of Champions'
The City of Chicago Office of Special Events will support the Otis Wilson Foundation's "Weekend of Champions" with Mayor Daley serving as one of the honorary chairpersons of the events hosted by the Foundation.
"The Mayor has been very supportive of my Foundation over the years and agreed to serve in this capacity when we began working on these activities almost a year ago, long before the Bears won the NFC Championship," said Otis Wilson, executive director of the Foundation. Other honorary chairpersons include former Chicago Bears Richard Dent, Dave Duerson, Jim McMahon and Jerry Azumah, and current Bear, Brian Urlacher.
The weekend will consist of three days of activities starting Friday, February 2, and ending on Sunday, February 4, with a special Chicago viewing party for all those Chicagoans and Bears fans that don't have tickets to the game.
"Many of our teammates from the 1985 team will be attending the Foundation's events in Miami to support Otis and make sure there is a place for Chicago fans to feel at home," said Richard Dent, former linebacker and MVP of the Chicago 1985 Championship team. All events will be held at the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood, Fla., the official Super Bowl XLI Committee sponsor hotel.
The Office of Special Events will send official NFC Championship banners and other Chicago memorabilia to use as raffle items and give-a-ways to guests that attend the Foundation's weekend of activities.
All proceeds from the Otis Wilson Foundation's "Weekend of Champions" will benefit the Foundation's 55-Alive program, a Chicago-based in-school nutrition and physical fitness program directed toward at-risk children and families in the Chicago Public Schools.
Otis Wilson, along with many other current and former NFL players, will also participate in a Celebrity Bowl-a-Thon and a Celebrity Flag Football Challenge hosted by SPP Sports and benefiting the Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.
