More than 45 Hopi artists will display and sell their beautiful artwork July 4 and 5 during the Museum of Northern Arizona's 65th Annual Hopi Marketplace. The event is from 9AM to 5PM each day and features art sales and demonstrations, traditional Hopi music and dances, and children's activities.
A variety of artwork including kachina dolls, pottery, basketry, jewelry, textiles, paintings, and sculpture will be for sale by individual Hopi artists throughout the Museum.
Some of the artists planning to attend include: Larson Goldtooth, Hopi-Tewa pottery; Steve Wikviya LaRance, sculpture; Bob Lomadapki, jewelry; David Dawangyumptewa, paintings and prints; Carol, Mary, and Megan Duwyenlie, pottery and weaving; Michael Kahe, carved figures and painted rattles; and Henry Shelton, kachina dolls. During the marketplace, visitors can enjoy the opportunity to meet artists, learn about their inspiration, and buy directly from them.
"The Hopi Marketplace is very beneficial to me. I get to meet a lot of people and gain exposure to continue my quest for success," said artist Larson Goldtooth, who has shown his work and won awards for the past three years at the event. The Hopi Marketplace is a juried exhibition in which artists win awards for outstanding achievement in traditional art forms and contemporary designs. Award-winning pieces will be for sale.
