Harkins Theatres celebrates the opening of it’s very first all digital projection mega-plex in Tucson.  The new Tucson Spectrum 18 Theatres, located on the southwest corner of I-19 and Irvington, opens Friday, May 9 with a weekend-long grand opening celebration.

Fulfilling its promise to deliver Ultimate Moviegoing®, each of Harkins Tucson Spectrum’s stadium-seated auditoriums will feature innovative, luxury amenities such as the Harkins Ultimate Rocker® - high back, rocking love seats, extra large wall-to-wall screens and state-of-the-art digital sound technology.  The theatre will be the first in Tucson to feature all-digital projection.

The theatre also boasts an unprecedented gourmet snack bar with an enormous menu including hot food selections such as Freschetta pizzas, White Castle cheeseburgers, churros and popcorn chicken.

The concession stand will feature Coca-Cola products, as well as Dr. Pepper and Diet Dr. Pepper. The theatre also features convenient ticketing via phone, Internet, and abundant on-site kiosks.

Loyalty Program offers Free Popcorn and $1 Drink Refills!

Another unique differentiator of Harkins Theatres is their Loyalty Cup and T-Shirt program. Created over 20 years ago, the Harkins Loyalty Cup, which can be purchased for $3.75, is good for $1 soft drink refills every time the guest brings the cup to the movies and the T-Shirt, available for $20, is good for a FREE medium popcorn every time it is worn to the movies.  Both items are valid through the end of 2008.  The 2009 Loyalty Cup and T-Shirt will go on sale November of 2008. 

Babysitting inside a movie theatre?

Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18 will also feature another Harkins exclusive and something that no other theatre in Tucson has – the Harkins PlayCenter, an in-lobby childcare facility where for only $6, children can play in a safe, secure environment supervised by certified professionals while Mom and Dad watch a movie.

The Harkins PlayCenter has toys, books, crafts, educational computer games, snacks and of course – movies.  Harkins President, Mike Bowers, who created the Harkins PlayCenter concept said; “The PlayCenter is designed to be a safe and fun place for children while making moviegoing more spontaneous for parents by eliminating the inconvenience of finding a babysitter at the last minute”.

Pre-Opening Charity Gala

On Thursday, May 8, Harkins will open the doors to the theatre one night early for a special gala benefiting Casa de los Ninos. An estimated 400 people are expected to turn out for an evening of cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and a special premiere of a major Hollywood film.  

Tickets are $50 a piece and can be purchased at www.casadelosninos.org. 

Casa de los Niños has extended a helping hand to children and families in need since 1973. Committed to preventing child abuse and neglect, the shelter and family services have provided aid, comfort and support to over 50,000 children & families in Pima County.

Opening Weekend

During opening weekend, guests can take part in various events and receive great discounts to celebrate the occasion.

Friday, May 9 – Ribbon cutting and first ticket purchase with Dan Harkins at 11 a.m.

The first 300 ticket holders will receive a Harkins Theatres gift pack containing one FREE 2008 Harkins Loyalty T-shirt, a FREE 2008 Harkins Loyalty cup and movie memorabilia. 

All Weekend

Everyone will receive a Get Smart  scratch and win game card, with the chance to win collectible movie items, iPods, movie tickets, FREE concession coupons and one lucky winner will receive a year’s worth of FREE MOVIES.

In 2007, Harkins Theatres opened six new locations throughout Maricopa County and Casa Grande including; Casa Grande 14, Park West 14, SanTan Village 16, Chandler Crossroads 12, Tempe Marketplace 16 featuring the Valley’s second Cine Capri, and Christown 14.
