Travelocity Breaks from the Norm in Online Travel with New Homepage

Travelocity has unveiled a new homepage featuring a clutter-free design that better alerts shoppers to current deals, while also giving them easy access to the ExperienceFinder SM planning tool and other destination-oriented features that provide a powerful visual exploration of travel possibilities.

“In researching the approach for the new homepage, travelers indicated to us that what they wanted from an online travel company is a greater emphasis on deals and relevant offers,” said Victoria Treyger, chief marketing officer, Travelocity North America. “We also knew that we had to balance that sentiment with simplicity and providing inspiration. This design addresses each of those challenges in an easy-to-use format.”

The four main tabs – “Book My Trip,” “More Great Deals,” “Explore Destinations” and “My Travelocity” are complemented by a standalone “Best Deals” box on the left side of the homepage that places sole emphasis on the most compelling offers currently available.

“Our focus as an online travel company during the current economic downturn has been to make travel possible,” Treyger said. “Travelers are relying on us more so than ever before to deliver value and we feel that the new homepage is a vehicle that they can rely on to book a trip they may not have otherwise.”

Using WebEffective™ from Keynote® Systems, Travelocity conducted extensive testing before settling on the final homepage design. The redesigned Travelocity homepage is based on the results of extensive, large sample size remote usability studies run on prototype versions of the homepage. The results of the final studies show that travelers not only prefer the new homepage over the old one, but they also prefer it over other online travel companies.

“I'm confident that Travelocity customers will be pleased and excited with the updated homepage which makes it easier and faster to find the travel products they need,” said Ryan Haupt, senior consultant with Keynote's customer experience/UX group. “WebEffective is Keynote's on-demand research tool for Web site usability testing that puts our clients in control of conducting their own comprehensive behavioral and attitudinal online research.”

Improvements to the Travelocity homepage include:
