Sherlock HolmesSherlock Holmes first appeared in publication in 1887, a creation of Sir Anthony Conan Doyle, a Scottish author and docctor. Holmes was portrayed as a London-based detective who used his wits to solve cases. Sir Doyle wrote four novels and 56 short stories about Sherlock Holmes.

The recent December 2009 film release of "Sherlock Holmes" with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law has increased interest in the original Sherlock Holmes films from the 1940's.

  • "The Case of the Texas Cowgirl" (1954) Minnie O'Malley, a cowgirl in a travelling rodeo, seeks help from Sherlock Holmes. Public domain.
  • "Case of the Cunningham Heritage" (1954) Holmes unravels the mystery surrounding the death of Mr. Cunningham.
