TR- Wow! Big variety!
Max- Yeah! I like to listen to a lot of different stuff. I think it's good for you to put in your music- different ideas. Because if you only listen to one kind of music, I think you become kind of limited and you just won't really be able to be stretched out. You will only be playing that kind of music and I think music is such a huge world. Everyday you can still find something new that you haven't heard before.
TR- Which song do you think is your favorite on your new CD?
Max- I like the second song "Seek and Strike." It's the one we did a video for. It's just the kind I really like the beat to it- the energy to the lyrics.
TR- Do you feel that you have accomplished what you wanted out of your new CD?
Max- I think so! We're still on the road for it. We're still playing the songs promoting this album and it's been now almost a year since it came out. So that's a good sign, I think. If you can put a CD out and you can tour for more then a year on it, that means that it was worth it. People still want it. So I think it's definitely was the right CD to make.
TR- What's the craziest thing that has happened to you on stage or during tour that a fan has done?
Max- I think guys jumping from balconies. That it was humanly impossible. The guy I thought would probably get killed but nothing happened. He was ok. It was just an amazing sight though. We were just like watching the guy jumping from up there in the middle of the song. It kind of freaked me out. I was like- damn! I was happy to find out that he was ok.
TR- Did you guys have to stop playing or did you just continue?
Max- We didn't stop. But in between songs I went and checked with the security and asked around. Is the dude Ok? And they said yeah! He's fine! He's probably going to do it again.
TR- What was it like playing at the Ozz Fest or with other famous musicians?
Max- It's fun! It's really fun! I personally prefer the festivals in Europe. I think they are more variety. The Ozz Fest seems to be the kind of flavor of the month right now. Even the bands on it. The ones I did were a little bit more innovative I think. The mix of the bands were a little better. The last Ozz Fest I saw the line ups, I wasn't really thrilled about it. It was kind of like an ex-ray of the radio of what the radio was playing. So I was glad that the ones we did they were bands like Snott and others. They were really exciting, heavier exciting. Less radio bands.
TR- Do you feel that you've completely left Sepultura in the past?
Max- Yeah! I think that I'm done with the music and with them when I was supposed to. And I feel very good about it, because I think it's good to leave a band on the moment before you start falling- then start making crappy records. I can always feel proud of my career with Sepultura. We just went up, up and up and never went backwards. And so that's good!
TR- Are you working on your next CD or are you going to take a break first?
Max- Yeah! We're still touring for a couple of months. We go back to Europe and South America, Central America. Another tour in America in September and then I'll write, start working on our new album. It will come out some time next year.
TR- Do you have many ideas for it already?
Max- A couple. Not a whole lot yet! Gradually the more it gets near to time to enter the studio the more ideas I will have.
TR- What's your favorite food?
Max- I like Russian. It's called Peruski. It's kind of underground. It's not really famous. I don't think you can really buy it anywhere. Gloria's mom makes it for me.
TR- Is it a meat or something?
Max- It's with meat inside. It's kind of crouquets. It's really cool! But they are not really like a dinner. They're more like an appetizer. It's a really cool Russian meal!
TR- What's your favorite city to play in?
Max- I don't really have one. I like everywhere. Really just being in the road is cool because some cities are more exciting then others. But still when it comes to the shows the shows are always exciting!
TR- What message would you like to give to your inspiring fans that want to follow in your footsteps?
Max- I think the best massage of Soulfly is of encouragement through the music of self respect and be proud of who you are. Don't care about how you look. Be proud of that, so it's an inner strength type of thing. Today, when everybody judges people by the way they look is really, really stupid, foolish, I think. In Soulfly's music and lyrics I try to tell them to stick to your guns. You like this kind of music. Screw the people who don't and if they don't like you for that reason, well don't stop. Don't change it for them.
