SXSW Film Conference 2007SXSW Film 2007 Announces Opening Night Film, Panels and MoreThe South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival is thrilled to announce its lineup of features, shorts and panels, for the 14th edition to be held in Austin, TX on March 9-17, 2007. The festival is scheduled to screen 110 feature films of which 61 are World Premieres, ten are North American Premieres, and seven are U.S. Premieres. The festival will open with the World Premiere of Scott Frank's The Lookout, on March 9. The closing night film, screening March 17, will be the North American Premiere of Chanwook Park's new film, I'm a Cyborg, but That's OK. New additions to the festival include: Judd Apatow's Knocked Up, Katy Chevigny's Election Day, Jonathan Levine's All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, Mike Mills' Does Your Soul Have a Cold?, Michele Ohayon's Steal a Pencil For Me, Doug Pray's Big Rig, and David Wain's The Ten. In both the Narrative and Documentary Feature Competitions, SXSW will screen eight films each. They include, in the Narrative Feature Competition: Jamie Babbitt (Itty Bitty Titty Committee), Ryan Eslinger (When a Man Falls in the Forest), Michael Lehmann (Flakes), and Adam Rapp (Blackbird). In the Documentary Feature Competition, audiences will see new work by acclaimed nonfiction filmmakers including: Macky Alston (Hard Road Home), Andrew Berends (When Adnan Comes Home), and Marlo Poras (Run Granny Run). Other feature films in the lineup for this year's event include: Eric Chaikin's documentary A Lawyer Walks Into a Bar, Kris Carr's documentary Crazy Sexy Cancer, D.J. Caruso's upcoming thriller Disturbia, and Shannon O'Rourke's documentary Maybe Baby. In addition to the features, the SXSW Film Festival will screen nearly 100 short films from around the globe, encompassing the worlds of animation, documentary, experimental filmmaking, music videos, and more. The SXSW Film Conference panels run from Saturday, March 10 through Tuesday, March 13. The panels lineup will include a special session entitled "Ready for Primetime: TV Comedy Today" featuring notable TV performers and producers such as Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy), Al Jean (The Simpsons), Rob Corddry (Fox's new show The Winner, The Daily Show), and more. Other notable panels include: "A Conversation with Bill Paxton;" "Which Niche is Which?: Finding the Target Audience," with Karina Longworth (Netscape), Eamonn Bowles (Magnolia Pictures), Jim Miller (Brave New Foundation) and Chris Hyams (Bside Entertainment); "Sex Scenes Stay Hard," with filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell (Shortbus), "Lonelygirl15 Case Study;" "A Conversation with Richard Linklater;" and "Panel of the Dead: Horror Films of Today," moderated by Harry Knowles of Ain't It Cool News.
