US NAVY DEPLOYS COUNTRY SINGER JETT WILLIAMS

MAY 17, 2003 Jacksonville, Fl - This morning, the US Navy deployed Jett Williams, daughter of legendary Hank Williams, out to sea on the USS Philippine Sea. Jett is the distinguished guest aboard the USS Philippine Sea and will accompany the sailors on their journey from Jacksonville, Florida to New York, New York to take part in the 16th Annual Fleet Week, in which President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush serve as event co-chairs. Jett, along with husband F. Keith Adkinson and a guitar player set sail this morning and will arrive in New York on Wednesday, May 21, 2003.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and I am so thrilled that the Captain asked me to join them on this journey," says Jett Williams. "For me to join the sailors that risked their lives in Operation Iraqi Freedom, is an honor so deep that it's almost beyond my ability to express my appreciation. So I am going to pick some guitar and sing some songs and really show them some appreciation for what they have done us Americans."

ABOUT JETT WILLIAMS:
Jett Williams, for several years, struggled to validate her birth as the daughter of Hank Williams who died just five days before Jett was born. Hank's little girl fought a legal system determined to prevent her rightful entitlement. Raised a ward of the state of Alabama rather than the acknowledged daughter of one of the greatest names in the music industry, Jett endured eight years of courtroom battles to win back the right to claim her blood lineage. Today, Jett tours to keep the 'legend alive' and makes appearances in support of the Hank Williams estate.

ABOUT THE USS PHILIPPINE SEA:
The ship's name commemorates the World War II Battle of the Philippine Sea, fought near the Marinas Islands in June 1944, in which U.S. Naval forces destroyed over 400 Japanese planes and three aircraft carriers. The first Navy ship to be named USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CV 47) was an aircraft carrier of the famed "Essex" class. Commissioned in 1946, the first USS PHILIPPINE SEA saw nearly continuous action throughout the 1950-1953 Korean conflict, receiving nine battle stars for its service. The ship was decommissioned in 1958.

The current USS PHILIPPINE SEA (CG 58) was commissioned in March 1989 and is home ported in Mayport, Florida. The ship's first deployment to the Mediterranean and Red Seas came in 1990 as part of Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. During Desert Storm, the ship fired ten Tomahawk cruise missiles and boarded many merchant vessels during coalition actions against Iraq. For its service, PHILIPPINE SEA received the Navy Unit Commendation, the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal. While deployed, the ship transited the Suez Canal six times and visited Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, returning home in the spring of 1991.

Later in 1991, the ship served as the flagship for a joint task force conducting counter-drug operations in the Caribbean, earning the Joint Meritorious Unit Award. In May 1992, PHILIPPINE SEA sailed again to the Mediterranean and Red Seas. While deployed, the ship made two Suez Canal transits and boarded thirty-nine vessels in support of United Nations sanctions against Iraq, earning a second Southwest Asia Service Medal. Additionally, PHILIPPINE SEA supported United Nations operations off the coast of the former Yugoslavia. Port visits were made to Spain, France, Italy, Egypt and Israel The ship returned from deployment in November 1992 and received the James F. Chezek Award for the highest Naval Gunfire Support score in the Atlantic fleet in 1992.

PHILIPPINE SEA completed a dry-docking period in Boston during 1993, followed by pre-deployment workups as part of the Saratoga Battle Group. In January 1994, the ship sailed with the Saratoga Joint Task Group for its third Mediterranean deployment, returning again to the Yugoslavian coast in support of U.N. Operations in the Adriatic. While deployed, the ship participated in numerous exercises with NATO forces. PHILIPPINE SEA made port calls in Spain, Turkey, Greece and Italy, and returned from deployment at the end of June 1994. For this deployment, the ship was awarded the Meritorious Unit Commendation. In July, August, November and December of 1994, the ship again conducted counter-drug operations in the Caribbean. The following year, PHILIPPINE SEA was chosen as the flagship for U.S. Baltic Operations '95 in Northern Europe from mid-May to mid-July. The ship then returned to homeport for a yard period to close 1995.

PHILIPPINE SEA deployed with the Enterprise Battle Group in the summer of 1996, to the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas supporting U.N. operations in the former Yugoslavia and conducting multi-national exercises with seven other countries as part of NATO's Partnership For Peace program. The PHILIPPINE SEA has completed its inter-deployment cycle and is prepared to support the missions of the navy.

The framed presentation that was presented to Crystal by Jeff Smulyan, president and CEO of Emmis Communications, read: The Spirit of the Prairie honors creativity. Crystal Gayle, troubadour of the heart, businesswoman, mom, Conner Prairie salutes you.

From Wabash to Nashville, you have charmed us with your songs of life, of love and loss. Bellamy Brothers Named International Ambassadors for Childhelp USA

4/1/403 Nashville, TN - Curb Recording artists The Bellamy Brothers were named International Celebrity Ambassadors for Childhelp USA during the organization's fifth annual National Day of HopeÆ ceremony (April 2, 2003). "This was the first time we've held this event in Nashville, TN, and felt it to be appropriate to announce our new International Celebrity Ambassadors at this event," stated Jennifer Willey, Childhelp USA's Community Relations Coordinator, Eastern Region.

The Bellamy Brothers were honored by the CMA (Country Music Association) with their "International Artists Achievement Award" (2002) for their contribution of bringing country music to over 40 countries worldwide. "We feel that Childhelp USA will benefit greatly from The Bellamy Brothers work, not only here in the US, but also on a worldwide basis,"continued Willey.

The organization, whose focus is the treatment and prevention of child abuse, has facilities throughout the US and has served as a role model for visitors from Japan, Russia, France, Iceland, New Zealand and students from Zurich, Switzerland, England, Israel, and Puerto Rico.

Plans are in the works for The Bellamy Brothers to participate in Childhelp USA's PSA program. The Bellamy Brothers are also working on a strategy to encourage radio stations nationally to bring the many services Childhelp USA provides to their individual communities' attention. The Bellamy Brothers are establishing a link from their website to the Childhelp USA website and will announce additional news on the affiliation shortly. "We are grateful to become involved with Childhelp USA," stated David Bellamy, a father of five children himself. "The statistic that three children each day die of child abuse in just the United States is heartbreaking."

"We are willing to work with Childhelp USA in any way we can to get their extremely important information to our fans," stated Howard Bellamy. "I'll start by stating their national child abuse hotline number 1-800-4-A-CHILD (1-800-422-4453) and hope the word of this resource is heard by everyone. The hotline serves the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Bellamy Brothers Break Silence

3/31/03 Nashville, TN - Notably missing from industry quotes regarding the recent announcement of ACM Nominations, (Academy of Country Music), the Bellamy Brothers came forward today to break their silence on their nomination for 'ACM Duo of The Year. '

Noted campaigners, the brothers stated, "Word of our nomination came to us a week ago, but we refrained from immediate comment. Of course we were most grateful, and very excited about the ACM nomination in the category of 'Duo of the Year,' but with the move of the awards ceremony from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, well, we needed more time to let the odds makers make their predictions as to our chance of taking this coveted award before we launched our strategy for '2003 ACM Duo of the Year' campaign," stated Howard Bellamy.

In 2002, the Bellamy Brothers were nominated for the 15th time by the CMA (Country Music Association) for 'Duo of the Year.' After consulting with an undisclosed campaign strategist, the Bellamy Brothers, launched into a full-blown campaign. Campaign workers mailed post cards to CMA members asking them to "Rock the Boat" and cast their vote for the Bellamy Brothers. Campaign signs covered Nashville's famed music row, attracting the attention of publications nationwide such as PR Weekly and The Tennessean.

Although the Bellamy Brothers did not take home the CMA Duo of the Year Award, they were honored to be presented with the CMA International Achievement Award. The Bellamy Brothers had completed their 40th World Tour in 2002.

"We're not sure yet just how much of a campaign we are going to launch for the nomination," stated David Bellamy. "We're seeking professional advice, and will make a decision shortly."

An Open Letter To The Hollywood Bunch

from Charlie Daniels:

Ok, let's just say for a moment you bunch of pampered, overpaid, unrealistic children had your way and the U.S.A. didn't go into Iraq.

Let's say that you really get your way and we destroy all our nuclear weapons and stick daisies in our gun barrels and sit around with some white wine and cheese and pat ourselves on the back, so proud of what we've done for world peace.

Let's say that we cut the military budget to just enough to keep the National Guard on hand to help out with floods and fires.

Let's say that we close down our military bases all over the world and bring the troops home, increase our foreign aid and drop all the trade sanctions against everybody.

I suppose that in your fantasy world this would create a utopian world where everybody would live in peace. After all, the great monster, the United States of America, the cause of all the world's trouble would have disbanded it's horrible military and certainly all the other countries of the world would follow suit.
After all, they only arm themselves to defend their countries from the mean old U.S.A.

Why you bunch of pitiful, hypocritical, idiotic, spoiled mugwumps. Get your head out of the sand and smell the Trade Towers burning. Do you think that a trip to Iraq by Sean Penn did anything but encourage a wanton murderer to think that the people of the U.S.A. didn't have the nerve or the guts to fight him?

Barbra Streisand's fanatical and hateful rankings about George Bush makes about as much sense as Michael Jackson hanging a baby over a railing.

You people need to get out of Hollywood once in a while and get out into the real world. You'd be surprised at the hostility you would find out here. Stop in at a truck stop and tell an overworked, long-distance truck driver that you don't think Saddam Hussein is doing anything wrong.

Tell a farmer with a couple of sons in the military that you think the United States has no right to defend itself.

Go down to Baxley, Georgia and hold an anti-war rally and see what the folks down there think about you.

You people are some of the most disgusting examples of a waste of protoplasm I've ever had the displeasure to hear about.

Sean Penn, you're a traitor to the United States of America. You gave aid and comfort to the enemy. How many American lives will your little, "fact finding trip" to Iraq cost? You encouraged Saddam to think that we didn't have the stomach for war.

You people protect one of the most evil men on the face of this earth and won't lift a finger to save the life of an unborn baby. Freedom of choice you say?

Well I'm going to exercise some freedom of choice of my own. If I see any of your names on a marquee, I'm going to boycott the movie. I will completely stop going to movies if I have to. In most cases it certainly wouldn't be much of a loss.

You scoff at our military who's boots you're not even worthy to shine. They go to battle and risk their lives so ingrates like you can live in luxury. The day of reckoning is coming when you will be faced with the undeniable truth that the war against Saddam Hussein is the war on terrorism.

America is in imminent danger. You're either for her or against her. There is no middle ground.

I think we all know where you stand.

What do you think?

God Bless America!
Charlie Daniels

Metal fans come in all shapes and sizes; recently, Bam Margera, filmmaker
and star of Jackass, trekked to Philadelphia to catch MTV2's Headbangers
Ball featuring Shadows Fall, Lamb of God, and Killswitch Engage with
Unearth.  Teen People.com recently reported Bam banged his head to this
amazing show.  The tour continues as Unearth departs and the opening slot is
filled in by Century Media's God Forbid.

Heavy Metal Music is not dead; with artists like Superjoint Ritual charting on Billboard at #55, Sevendust at #32, From Autumn To Ashes at #74, and Dimmu Borgir at #163, along with the HEADBANGERS BALL Compilation CD at #37; the support of MTV is making a huge difference for rock music once again.  This success is partially due to the recent relaunch of the MTV2 Headbangers Ball television show, which highlights the best new metal videos, interviews with hard rock artists, showcasing the new breed of metal talent.  The new "Headbangers Ball" series is inspiring the next generation of headbanging fans.  Hosted by Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed, MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" can be seen every Saturday night at 10 pm EST and 7 pm PST.

Now more people are being exposed to more heavy music and less of the reality shows and Hip Hop, which have dominated MTV for so long.  Clearly, there is a demand for this style of music that has been overlooked for far too long.  It is great to see mainstream media and its audience taking notice.

Lamb of God drummer Chris Adler points out, "The MTV Headbangers Ball tour is a success for the bands and, most importantly, the fans."

Fellow tour mate Howard Jones of Killswitch Engage muses, "We've made it to our first day off with no casualties.  The tour has been amazing so far.  Everyone who has come out to the shows has been awesome.  The other bands have been playing like the talented virtuosos that they are.  We've been getting our veggie burgers every night, so that's always a plus.  So if this tour is coming anywhere near your town, come witness the bloodshed."

The tour, with its premier metal acts, promises to deliver some of the most earth shattering, deafening and truly heavy metal music to the fans. MTV2, the 24-hour music network, supports this first-ever MTV2 Headbangers Ball Tour which kicked off October 28th in Montreal, Canada. This 40 date tour features live performances by heavy metal heavyweights including Roadrunner Records artist Killswitch Engage, Prosthetic Records Recording artist (newly signed to Epic) Lamb Of God and Century Media's very own Shadows Fall, who will all rotate and co-headline this year's tour.  Featured opening act for the first leg of the tour will be Metal Blade recording artists Unearth and, for the second leg, Century Media's God Forbid.

"With some of the most loyal and diehard followers in all of music, the return of 'Headbangers Ball' once again gives hard rock and metal fans a place that is all their own," said Joe Armenia, VP of Music Marketing and Promotions for MTV & MTV2.  "And with the show's new home on MTV2, we wanted to take it one step further by bringing some of the best metal bands seen on the show every week such as Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall and Lamb Of God straight to the fans for an unforgettable live concert experience."

And yes...All three headlining acts of the HBB tour are also featured on the first-ever "MTV2 Headbangers Ball" CD, which was released in October.   The double disc CD includes metal's newest, most powerful trailblazers.  Just some of the artists featured on the album include Godsmack, Slayer, Hatebreed, Cold, Marilyn Manson, Mushroomhead, Ill Nino, Spineshank, Chimaira, Staind, Eighteen Visions and more.

The real deal...Lamb Of God drummer Chris Adler says: "We're very excited about unleashing the monster that is Lamb of God onto the U.S. and with the help of our friends in Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, God Forbid and Unearth, this will prove to be the metal concert event of the year.  Headbangers Ball is finally back and with it comes the first and only real metal tour of 2003. Take note, top to bottom, this is how it's done."

With music so extreme there is always an element of surprise and risk... Shadows Fall vocalist Brian Fair explains, "I am not sure if my liver or my neck muscles are prepared, but I am definitely willing to risk serious physical damage and potential rehab to be a part of this year's MTV2 Headbangers Ball Tour.  We couldn't be more excited about rejoining our great friends in Lamb Of God and Killswitch Engage.  And now, maybe Randy of Lamb Of God and I can finally finish our drinking contest that began about
three years ago.  Be prepared, there's a steamroller heading your way."

MAX FROM SOUFLY MAKES A SPEECH AND COLLABORATES WITH FORMER MEGADETH BASSIST

Soulfly frontman Max Cavalera is no stranger to the stage, but later this month he'll be speaking to an audience rather than singing to it. Max has been asked to address the Philosophical Society's 319th Session at Trinity College in Dublin.  The vocalist will speak on the topic, "Is music losing its right to an artistic license?"  Since 1684, the college has called upon many speakers.  Among them - Winston Churchill, Frederic Engels, JK Galbraith, Bertrand Russell, and U2's The Edge.  Max's address takes place
    November 13th.

Soulfly's new lineup is moving at a rapid pace through recording sessions for their next disc.  The foursome have holed themselves up at Mesa's Saltmine Studios and completed nine tracks.  Among the tentative titles are: "The Prophecy," "Living Sacrifice," "Defeat U," "Mars," "R.A.F.," "Born Again Anarchist," "Believe," "Porrada," and "Soulfly IV."  Former Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson has contributed to four tracks, and Terry Date
(Deftones, Pantera) has been tapped to mix the disc in the coming weeks.

On November 15, nearly 40,000 people witnessed the heaviness of Superjoint Ritual at the Smokeout Festival in San Bernadino, CA. There, the band shared the stage with Cypress Hill, Linkin Park, DMX, Hatebreed, Pennywise, Papa Roach and Body Count. Easily, this was the largest gathering of fans Superjoint Ritual has performed for since Philip Anselmo's  days with Pantera.  Brutally extreme metallers SJR left fans stunned by the brutal force of their aural assault. Philip and to shake the iconic vocalist's hand.

SUPERJOINT RITUAL'S ferocious new offering, A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred, debuted on the Billboard Chart #55 of the Top 200 and is #1 on Specialty Radio charts.  Global news leader CNN also reported the CD as the #1 Independent Release during its debut week.

In other SJR news...Rock music icon Philip Anselmo recently hosted an hour of Extreme Music on MTV2.  Basically, Philip took over the network and presented "Philip Anselmo's Ball." True to form, he pulled some old school metal videos from the MTV2 archive for viewers to enjoy and the program also served as somewhat of an education to younger metal fans as Philip aired videos from some true metal giants like Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Cro-Mags, and Black Flag along with some of SJR's own videos.  Currently, SJR's new clip, 'Waiting For The Turning Point' is ALL OVER North American television, airing on FUSE's Uranium, MTV2's Headbangers Ball, MTV2 Extreme, MuchMusic, and MuchLoud Canada.  Superjoint tour with Morbid Angel and Devil Driver! COAL CHAMBER B SIDES - 8/18/03
Come August 18th, Coal Chamber's aptly titled new CD - Giving The Devil His Due - will be hitting the streets. Actually, it isn't new at all. In fact, some of the over 20 tracks that make up this album were recorded almost 10 years ago... Not a traditional "B-sides" album, Giving The Devil His Due is instead a collection of songs that trace the sonic growth and breadth of that band of gothic metal mongers that we affectionately call Coal Chamber. It is full of remixes (many of them far superior to the originals), demos (dating back from BEFORE the band was even signed), soundtrack recordings AND ONE ALL NEW SONG, "Headstones and the Walking Dead".

    RECORD RELEASES in SEPTEMBER
    SPINESHANK's SELF-DESTRUCTIVE PATTERN - 9/9/03

Spineshank returns with Self-Destructive Pattern, an album that sees them both building on their foundation of aggressive electronica-influenced hard rock and expands upon the infectious melodies they hinted at on The Height of Callousness. Self-Destructive Pattern draws you in then beats you mercilessly with sonic vigor.

Roadrunner Re-Issues "Two From the Vault" - 9/9/2003
Roadrunner' Records is celebrating its ultra heavy 'n hard past by re-releasing a cache of out-of-print classics, packaging two seminal albums by individual artists, together as a "two for one" series. Additionally, the label will also release a collection of "best of" discs by several artists, complete with liner notes penned by contemporary artists. Many of the artists selected for these series are still very active and viable, with catalogs that continue to sell each week. Titles included are Carnivore's Carnivore and Retaliation, Annihilator's Alice In Hell and Never, Neverland, Obituary's Slowly We Rot and Cause Of Death, Exhorder's Slaughter In The Vatican and The Law, Gang Green's You Got It and Older, Mercyful Fate's Melissa and In The Beginning, King Diamond's Abigail and Fatal Portait, Pestilence's Consuming Impulse and Testimony, Front Line Assembly's Caustic Grip and Gashed Senses And Crossfire and Suffocation's Effigy Of The Forgotten and Pierced From Within. Any self-respecting metalhead will salivate like a Pavlovian dog over the renewed availability of these hard-to-find, long-out-of-print masterworks.

    ILL NINO's CONFESSION - 9/30/03
Ill Nino surface to the music forum with their upcoming release, CONFESSION. The album is a continuation of the stark heaviness of Revolution, Revolucion pooled with addictive Latin rhythms and empowering vocals. Listening to Ill Nino is like taking the beauty of the salsa and shaking it up with the aggression of a mosh pit.

This summer pairs up some of Roadrunner Records best together with each other as well as some of this year's hottest members of the metal militia. To kick things off - Killswitch Engage and Chimaira have been wreaking havoc on this year's Ozzfest second stage. Both bands have embedded their feet firmly in the metal world with their heady live performances and mind-bending music. Killswitch Engage and Chimaira have Off-fest dates to fill the metal appetites of those deprived of the Ozzfest buffet.

Ill Nino and Spineshank link up to give all the back to schoolers an education on putting on a live show. Both bands combine catchy, melodic hooks with the hard -pummeling riffs and beats. Spineshank is currently finishing up a quick jaunt across the US with Powerman 5000 and Adema. They joined forces with Ill Nino in Cleveland on 9/5/03. The members of Type O Negative are the forerunners of the goth-music movement. TYPE O's notorious, black sense of humor remains fully in tact on their album, Life is Killing Me. The band is currently on their headlining tour with Lacuna Coil.

GLORIA GAYNOR RECEIVES WORLD PEACE MUSIC AWARD IN BALI FOR INAUGUARAL EVENT

(June 22, 2003 Los Angeles) -- Legendary entertainer, Gloria Gaynor, performed and was honored at the World Peace Music Awards in Bali for her contributions to world peace through her music and personal sacrifice.

The World Peace Music Awards was the first-ever global-scale tribute to musicians, who through their music, personal example, and sacrifice have made major contributions to world peace, harmony and human co-existence. Ms. Gaynor, who was one of the recipients of the award, was chosen by a committee comprised of Nobel Peace Prize winners, philanthropists, United Nations representatives, religious leaders, heads of states and fellow musicians. Pop stars from over 25 countries will perform and celebrate in what is expected to become an annual event.

Proceeds of this event went to several charities, including the International Scholarship Fund for Children and Spouses of Victims of Terrorists Acts. The show was taped to be broadcast worldwide at a later date.

In addition to this award, Ms. Gaynor was also presented with the ìLife of Peace ì award from the United States for all her philanthropic contributions to organizations including but not limited to: Red Cross, Unicef, United Negro College Fund and the Cancer Fund, to name a few.

Gaynor opened with her signature anthem, "I Will Survive," along with a few of her other international hits and also performed songs from her new BMG release, "I Wish You Love." In addition, Ms. Gaynor co-wrote a song with her manager/husband, Linwood Simon, "Together We Can," which she performed at the end of the awards show with the 25 other artists involved, reminiscent of the "We Are The World" singers in 1985.

S.T.U.N. TO FOLLOW WARPED TOUR WITH TAPROOT DATES

"S.T.U.N. ...is the real deal....edgy energy that recalls the Stooges."
    -- St. Louis Dispatch

White-hot punk band S.T.U.N., who are getting rave reviews from press and giving fans more than their money's worth on this summer's Warped Tour, will jump right from the Warped August 10 closer to nine dates with Taproot, starting August 14 at the Henry Ford Theatre in Los Angeles (complete itinerary below). The dates are in support of S.T.U.N.'s Geffen Records debut CD, "Evolution of Energy," which was released on June 24.

The five-week Warped tour has demonstrated that S.T.U.N. is one of the most fearless and exciting new bands on the scene today. Pegged by Rolling Stone and MTV as one of 2003's "10 Artists 2 Watch," the three-year old band combines their own mix of high-energy "piss-and-vinegar punk with juicy pop hooks," (Rolling Stone) with lyrics that are intended to incite and unite toward a revolution of self-determination.

In its Warped Tour review, the Los Angeles Times went a step further: "S.T.U.N. one of the most thrilling performances of the dayJane's Addiction-meets-Rage Against the Machine rhythms, hook-heavy anthems and unpredictable, Sex Pistols-like swagger"

In S.T.U.N.'s short career, they have proven their mettle with opening slots for artists such as Jane's Addiction, the Used, Bad Religion, and the Casualties. And with a S.T.U.N. show, you never know quite what you're going to witness on any given night vocalist Christiane J. who apparently thinks that keeping both feet firmly on the stage is dull and dreary has taken to climbing up into the rafters of the venue during the show, mic in hand, never missing a note.

Such gymnastics come with a price he required 10 stitches in his head once when he collided with Nick S.' bass, and at another show, sent drummer Bobby Alt to the ER when Christiane headbutted Alt and his entire drum kit. On a recent Warped date, Christiane scaled the walls of the stage to stand outside on the roof, where he completed the song.

    August
14 Henry Fonda Theatre, Los Angeles, CA
    15 Slim's, San Francisco, CA
    17 Roseland Grill, Portland, OR
    18 Graceland, Seattle, WA
    20 Big Easy, Boise, ID
22 X-scape, Salt Lake City, UT
    23 Ogden Theatre, Denver, CO
    26 Blue Note, Columbia, MO
    28 State Theatre, Detroit, MI

THE STRING CHEESE INCIDENT and Producer Youth - A Creative Clash that
    Yielded a Stunning Album

Recording the upcoming String Cheese Incident album, "Untying The Not" (due out September 23) wasn't always an easy process. Produced by Youth, known for his innovative dance tracks and work with the Orb, the Verve, and Crowded House, recording sessions at The Plant Studios in Sausalito, CA presented cultural and musical barriers.

"The creative process was definitely fiery," says guitarist Billy Nershi. "There were some pretty strong confrontations between us and Youth." Yet SCI didn't hold the producer back, and Youth wound up having a strong role not only in arranging the songs, but also in how each member of the band played.

"Almost every guitar part I played on this CD is not the way I normally play guitar," added Neshi, "and {drummer Michael} Travis had to learn a completely new way to play in time because Youth had him hit the drums five times harder than he had ever done in his life.

And yet," the guitarist concludes, "the album still sounds like String Cheese. It's by far our best studio project ever. To be honest, I'm amazed."
