Chen Wok's delivers the goods!

Simon Chen opened Chen & Wok  ten years ago, in the location where Chop n’ Wok had been. 

I am fortunate enough to live within walking distance but if you are not, they deliver.  Chen Wok is located on the Northeast Corner of 7th St. & Maryland.  The delivery area is bounded by Dunlap to the North, Indian School to the South and 7th Avenue to the West, and 24th St. to the East. Delivery is free with a $10 minimum order. Chen Wok bills itself as Gourmet Oriental and I must concur. 

The 30 seat restaurant is humble yet comfortable. Dinner prices range from $3.95 to $7.75.  Lunch specials can be had for $3.15 for a regular order to $ 3.95 for a large portion.  All orders are served with steamed rice.  Soups can be had in single portions, ($1.95), or generous family-sized portions. ($3.50). Soup selections are Wor Wonton, Hot & Sour; Egg flower and a unique Corn & cream soup, not unlike corn chowder. 

Simon offers a full selection of beef, chicken, pork, shrimp, chop suey, (crispy noodles), lomein (soft noodles); as well as Egg Foo Young, bean curd; vegetables and rice bowls. 

The eight piece butterfly shrimp appetizer is divine.  (Ask for the special house mustard, if you like it hot!)  All dishes can be seasoned to taste upon request.

Egg rolls, fried wonton, honey-dipped chicken, pot stickers, crab puffs,  pork ribs and  barbecued pork round out the appetizer menu ( .75 – $3.95).  Portions are large and I sometime grab just butterfly shrimp and crab puffs for an evening in front of the television.  Chen also offers family dinners for two, to five people.

One of my favorite dishes is the Beef and Snow Peas.  The tender beef slices are paired with crisp, fresh snow peas, water chestnuts, bell pepper, onion and seasonings in a garlicky brown sauce.

Selections are available in small and large sizes.  Small is perfect for one and the large portion is good for two regular diners or generous leftovers for one. 

Service is friendly and fast and take-out is packed in traditional paper cartons. All white meat is available for any chicken dish for a modest $1.00 charge.  Simon also offers catering.
