Gem Show traffic limits parking options downtownWith all the improvements this past year, there will still be limited parking available in the Downtown Tucson area. The Downtown Tucson now has 14,000 parking spaces, 1,000 parking meters and eight parking garages available to the public. During the Gem Show, the demand for those spaces will fill up quickly early in the morning. Special Gem Show parking is available at 22nd St. and I-10 frontage road (East side), and Congress St. and I-10 frontage road (West side) as well as at the JOGS show at Tucson Expo Center on East Irvington Road. There is no charge for on-street parking on weekend and holidays. Storefront ParkingMetered spaces along Broadway Blvd and Congress Avenue use angled parking. Parking Lots and Garages RatesFive of the Tucson Downtown parking garages have hourly parking. Those charges free for the first hour and increase to $1 per hour after that. Parking charges will not exceed $8 for the day. The remaining six parking garages and lots offer monthly parking rates that start at $25 per month. The 750-space Pennington Street Garage is now open for business at the corner of Pennington Street and Sixth Avenue. The garage is equipped with state-of-the-art technology to enter and exit quickly, and a solar lighting system to stay lit at night. Metered street parking on most Downtown streets. A recent re-striping project created 150 additional parking spaces along Congress Street and Broadway Boulevard. The Pennington Street Garage, 100 E. Pennington, is offering discount garage parking att he garage for $2 for 2 hours; $3 for up to 5 hours; $4 for up to 8 hours and $5 for 12 hours. There is also a discounted rate of $15 a day. The discount prices will return to the regular garage rates after the construction of the Fourth Avenue Underpass is completed. Parking Meter Key CardsThese key cards make it easier with preloaded cash. Call 791-5071 or email parkwise@tucson.az.gov Free Downtown Shuttles and VansSun Tran, the Tucson public bus system operates throughout downtown Tucson. The Sun Tran Free Downtown Loop shuttle can place riders within walking distance of a few gem shows. The Van runs every 30 minutes Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Park your car in a garage and take the free shuttle.
